PURCHASE, NY – The Maritime College baseball team extended its winning streak to six straight games with a doubleheader sweep at Manhattanville on Saturday. After taking the opener by a 7-1 count, the Privateers (18-5, 8-0 Skyline) notched a 10-inning, 13-12 victory over the Valiants (9-14, 4-6 Skyline) in the nightcap at Manhattanville Baseball Field.
In Game 1, Maritime struck early when
Logan Martinson (Sumner, WA) crushed a two-run homer in the top of the first. Martinson then made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the third. After the Valiants got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, the Privateers put up a four-spot in the sixth.
Rob Copozzi (Center Moriches, NY) delivered a two-run blast before
Anthony Madigan (Greenlawn, NY) singled home a pair.
That was more than enough offense for
Matt Demme (Carmel, NY) (7-0), who picked up his 20
th career win with his third complete game of the season. He allowed one run on seven hits, struck out four and walked three.
Offensively, Madigan led the way with three hits, including a double. He also drove in two runs and scored twice. Martinson finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, while Copozzi's home run was his sixth of the year.
For Manhattanville, Jake Parisi went 2-for-4 and Deven Silva had a pinch-hit, RBI single. Ryan McCann (2-3) got the start for the Valiants and lasted 5.1 innings. He yielded five runs (three earned) on five hits and recorded one strikeout. Chris Antonelli surrendered two runs in 0.2 innings, and Joseph Lacoparra gave up one hit in a scoreless seventh.
After the Privateers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2, back-to-back RBI singles by Martinson and
Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY) in the third increased that margin to 3-0. However, Manhattanville put up a four-spot in the bottom of the third before adding two more in the fourth to go up 6-4. Maritime got two back in the top of the fifth, though, as Bardi doubled home Martinson and scored on
Harry Leipold's (Thornwood, NJ) infield single.
Maritime then regained the lead with a five-run sixth. After
Michael Frazzetta (Howard Beach, NY) and Madigan both walked,
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) tied the game with an RBI single. Martinson followed with a two-run single to right before Bardi belted a two-run homer to left center that made it 10-6.
Manhattanville scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 10-8, and went back in front, 11-10, after plating three in the seventh. The Privateers immediately countered with an unearned tally in the top of the eighth, knotting the score at 11-11. After Maritime left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth,
Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY) worked around a two-out double in the bottom half of the inning.
Leipold broke the tie with a leadoff homer in the 10
th, and the Privateers added an insurance run on Madigan's RBI single. Manhattanville cut its deficit to one when Jordan Wazolek scored on an error, then Chris Goohs drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. The next batter sent a ground ball back to the mound that Kellner turned into a game-ending double play, giving Maritime the 13-12 victory.
Bardi went 5-for-5 in the game, tying the single-game program record for hits. He had five RBIs and scored three times. Martinson was 3-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Forgione finished 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI. Madigan also recorded three hits and crossed the plate twice. Leipold, meanwhile, notched two hits, including a homer, and drove in two.

Andrew Heiderstadt (Farmingdale, NY) each pitched an inning out of the bullpen. Kellner (1-1) earned the win after holding the Valiants to one unearned run on one hit and three walks over the final two innings. He struck out one.
Michael Musantry ended up 5-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs for Manhattanville. Anthony Pressimone doubled twice as part of his 3-for-4 effort. He also scored twice. CJ Archul, meanwhile, had two doubles of his own to go along with three runs scored and two RBIs.
