Maritime Dominates Framingham State In Florida

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Maritime College baseball team was scheduled to play two games at the RussMatt Invitational on Friday.  However, the weather intervened and the Privateers were only able to take the field once, while the other contest was cancelled due to rain.  The rain delay proved no factor for the Maritime offense, as the Privateers (9-3) pounded out 16 hits in a 17-3 victory over Framingham State (0-8) at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Framingham State scored two in the top of the first, but Maritime immediately got those runs back on Freddy Forgione's (Ronkonkoma, NY) two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning.  The Privateers then took the lead with three in the third.  Anthony Madigan (Greenlawn, NY) doubled and Forgione walked before Matt Milone (Farmingville, NY) roped a two-run double to right center.  He later came around on a double by Logan Martinson (Sumner, WA).

Maritime added four more in the fourth.  Forgione drove in Randy Ventura (Syosset, NY) with a single, then, after Milone singled, Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY) belted a three-run homer to left that increased the Privateers' advantage to 9-2.  The Rams picked up a run in the top of the fifth before Maritime put up a five-spot.  Madigan's bases-loaded single scored two, and Ian Wilson (Bayonne, NJ) stole home, while Forgione and Bardi notched RBI doubles.

Wilson and Madigan were at the heart of another Maritime rally in the sixth.  Jaden Shea (Severn, MD) walked and Ventura doubled before Wilson knocked an RBI single to left.  Ventura scored when Madigan reached on a fielder's choice, then another run came across on an error.

Brandon Stanley (Trinity, FL) (4-1) was the beneficiary of all that offense.  He pitched six innings, surrendering three runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out seven while not walking a batter.  Haydn Strycharz (Pittstown, NJ) notched one strikeout during a 1-2-3 seventh.

Six different Privateers had a multi-hit game.  Forgione finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs.  Madigan was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs, while Ventura reached all three times on two hits and a walk.  He scored three runs.  Bardi ended up 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, and Milone had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

For the Rams, Lucas Basile was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Steven Burbank went 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Starting pitcher Josh Sunderland (0-2) took the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking one over four innings.

On Saturday, Maritime concludes its stay in Florida with a 9:15 a.m. matchup with SUNY Poly (8-7).
