UNIONDALE, NY – On Sunday afternoon, the Maritime College baseball team played its first Skyline Conference doubleheader of the season against St. Joseph's Brooklyn. Privateers (13-8, 1-1 Skyline) scored six runs in the eighth inning to earn an 11-5 victory in game one before the Bears (7-9, 3-1 Skyline) took the second contest at Mitchel Field by an 8-7 count.
Maritime jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning of game one.
Chris Felder (Wallingford, PA) started the inning with a double and scored on a single by
Ian Wilson (Bayonne, NJ).
Nick Pinggera (Kings Park, NY) and
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) then ripped RBI singles before
Rob Copozzi (Center Moriches, NY) drove in Pinggera to make it 4-0.
It remained that way until the sixth, when the Privateers picked up another run on
Matt Milone's (Farmingville, NY) RBI double. However, St. Joseph's Brooklyn tied the game with a five-spot in the bottom half of the inning. Neither side scored in the seventh, sending the contest into extra innings.
Christian Ark (Rocky Point, NY) started the eighth with an infield single, then a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out. That brought up Wilson, who delivered a bases-clearing triple to left center. After a St. Joseph's Brooklyn error, the Privateers added three more runs to increase their advantage to 11-5.
Matthew Demme (Carmel, NY) then worked around a pair of singles in the bottom of the eighth to finish off the victory.
Every Maritime starter had either hit or a run scored in game one. Wilson finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs, while Forgione was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Copozzi went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Pinggera recorded two RBIs while also scoring twice.
Shane Sullivan (Stewart Manor, NY) started on the mound and lasted 5.1 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out five and walked two. Demme (4-1) picked up the win in relief after tossing two shutout innings. He gave up two hits and posted two strikeouts.

Mike Santoriello surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks over six innings before being relieved by Sean Henris. Henris (0-2) took the loss after yielding six runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks in two innings.
In game two, Maritime again took an early lead, getting a run on a Copozzi groundout in the first and another on
Michael Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, NY) RBI single in the second. St. Joseph's Brooklyn tied it in the bottom of the second, though, when Schneeberg belted a two-run homer to left.
The Privateers went back in front with three runs in the fifth.
Jaden Shea (Severn, MD) drove in one on an infield single before
Vasilios Vafakos (Astoria, NY) knocked in a pair with a ground-rule double to left center. After the Bears made it 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Maritime added two more in the top of the seventh. Milone doubled home a run before scoring on Frazzetta's single to center.
However, St. Joseph's Brooklyn rallied in the bottom of the seventh. The Bears loaded the bases on three singles, then Chris Leary singled home a pair. Lucas Collet followed with a base hit that brought St. Joseph's Brooklyn within 7-6. After an error loaded the bases,
Andrew Heiderstadt (Farmingdale, NY) struck out Louis Lombardi. Schneeberg was up next, though, and he deposited a two-run, walk-off single into right field to give the Bears an 8-7 victory.
Frazzetta went 3-for-3 with two RBIs out of the nine-spot. He also drew a walk. Shea finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Forgione and
Anthony Madigan (Greenlawn, NY) were both 2-for-5 with a run. Starting pitcher

Justin Conaty started on the mound for the Bears and tossed the first five innings. He was charged with five runs, eight hits and five walks. Jake McDonald (1-0) earned the win after yielding four runs on two hits with one walk in two innings of work.
Up next for the Privateers is a 12 p.m. twinbill against Old Westbury (7-9, 2-2 Skyline) on Saturday. The doubleheader will be played on the Farmingdale campus.
