The Maritime College baseball team defeated Manhattanville through constant rain on Sunday afternoon by a score of 2-0 in just five innings. The difficult weather proved to be a challenge for both teams, but strong pitching from
Niko Concha (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga) and a clutch fourth-inning single from
Jaden Shea (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding) was enough for the Privateers to get the win.
Concha was stellar on the mound for Maritime as he was only gave up one hit and walked one batter in five innings pitched. Meanwhile, the Valiants struggled to keep control of the slippery ball as they combined for eight walks. Offensively, the Privateers struggled as well, but came up with a clutch hit when they needed it. After two walks put
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) and
Austen Bishop (Millersville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) on base, Shea came up to bat and drove a single into left field that allowed both runners to score. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the rain reached a point that created unplayable conditions and the game was called.
The win moves the Privateers to 4-2 in Skyline action and they will take on Yeshiva University in doubleheader action on Reinhart Field Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m.
