The Maritime College women's soccer team couldn't make it three straight wins on Saturday afternoon as they fell to Rosemont College 3-1. The Privateers were coming off wins against Pratt and the College of Saint Elizabeth, but couldn't keep the momentum going against the Ravens and dropped to 4-3 on the season.
Maritime got off to a slow start offensively against Rosemont, who took advantage by putting a goal in the first 20 minutes of action. The Privateers were able to find a rhythm later in the half by tallying three corner kicks and three more shots since the goal, but defensively they were unable to keep the Ravens off the board. Rosemont totaled three first half goals to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room.
Despite the large deficit, the Privateers continued to fight and put pressure on the Ravens defense. The hard work paid off in the 73rd minute as
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) scored her seventh goal of the season to cut the lead to two goals. Unfortunately, Maritime wasn't able to capitalize on the late goal and their comeback attempt fell short.
Freshman goalkeeper
Lizzie Pomaro (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) registered eight saves on the day to bring her season total up to 34. As a team the Privateers tallied six shots and three on target. Maritime also earned six corner kicks, compared to just three from the hosts.
The Privateers return to action on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. when they travel to Valley Forge for their final non-conference matchup.
