Women's Soccer Drops 3-0 Decision to Manhattanville

The Maritime College women's soccer team battled hard against Manhattanville, but they weren't able to convert any offensive opportunities and fell 3-0.

The Privateers defense was led by senior goalkeeper Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough), who turned away 10 of 13 shots on goal from the Valiants. In total, Manhattanville registered 31 total shots, but Maritime's defense battled throughout the game to keep the score within reach and the ball out of the back of the net.

The Valiants put up two goals in the opening 10 minutes, but as the game went on the Privateers settled in and kept it scoreless for the remainder of the half. With time winding down in the first half, junior defender Kayla Kelly (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) found her second opportunity of the half, but the Valiants goalie turned away the shot and as they were able to escape the half and hold Maritime at zero.

Once again, the Privateers got off to a slow start in the half and Manhattanville added a third goal just seven minutes in. However, Maritime responded again and battled back to keep the game competitive. The offense got another opportunity late in the half as a shot on goal from Lexie Gula (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) gave Maritime a corner kick, but they were unable to convert and the game ended at 3-0 in favor of the Valiants.

MacKenzie Fabiani (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) and Ashley Giorgio (Islip, N.Y./Islip) also recorded shots for the Privateers offense in the loss. Havens 10 saves now brings her season total up to 36 as she cements her legacy as one of the greatest goalkeepers to suit up for Maritime by extending her lead as the program leader in saves.

Maritime gets back on the field Wednesday, Sep. 26 at 7:30 p.m. for a home matchup against Saint Elizabeth before opening up conference play on Saturday, Sep. 29 against St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
