Maritime Swarms Morrisville 4-1 in Sunday Contest

Box Score THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team upended Morrisville, 4-1 on Sunday afternoon on Reinhart Field. The Privateers got two goals apiece from junior Kathleen Burns (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and sophomore Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia).
 
Burns scored her first two goals of the season only nine minutes apart from each other. Her first came off an assist from senior Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) in the 27th minute and then her second goal was the result of a Morrisville turnover. Burns was able to find the loose ball and shoot to the bottom right of the goal to make it 3-1 in the 36th minute. Burns led the team with five points in the match to go along with seven shots on goal.
 
Woods scored her first goal after retrieving a loose ball off a cross from Burns in the 11th minute and then slotting her shot just pass the goalkeeper. Her second goal came in the 57th minute on a cross from freshman Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) to make the game 4-1. Woods' two goals on the day push her season total to three. Including her two goals, Woods racked up 11 shots, six on goal in the match.
 
Freshman Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) had another strong game in net with eight saves, only allowing the one penalty kick goal, in the full 90 minutes. Freshman midfielder Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) also tallied two shots, one on goal. Sophomore Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) and Salatto also registered a shot each.
 
Morrisville's lone goal was scored on a penalty by Courtney Cavellier in the 18th minute.
 
The Privateers totaled 25 shots, with 16 coming on goal. In contrast, Morrisville tallied 16 shots with nine on taret. Both teams also reistered five corners apiece.
 
Maritime (2-3) will look to win two in a row in their next match Thursday, September 17, against Medgar Evers on Reinhart Field at 7 p.m.
