Women’s Soccer Earns Skyline Win with Five-Goal Effort vs. Yeshiva

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team collected its third Skyline win of the season as the Privateers knocked off the Yeshiva Maccabees by a 5-1 score on Thursday evening on Reinhart Field.

Leading the team was sophomore Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia), who recorded three goals and one assist on the night for a seven-point total. Her seven-point output was the second highest of the season, and tied the second highest of her career. Junior Kathleen Burns (Islip, N.Y./Islip) picked up her sixth goal of the season, while sophomore Julianna Avitto (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) recorded her fifth of the season.

Senior Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) and freshman Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) also picked up assists, while Burns added two of her own on the night.

In goal, freshman Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) played the full 90 minutes for Maritime and picked up four saves en route to her sixth victory of the season.

It took just 94 seconds for the Privateers to open the scoring as Paczkowski found Woods, who planted the ball into the goal for the early 1-0 lead. Avitto followed with the team's second goal, and eventual game-winning goal on a cross into the box from Woods on right wing.

Woods netted her second of the game of a quick pass from the wing off the foot of Burns to increase the lead to 3-0. Yeshiva answered with a quick goal to trim the deficit to two.

Just over a minute later, Burns sent a ball into the box from the left wing once again that was tipped by Deleva out to Woods. The sophomore shot the ball towards the left post and buried the ball for her third goal of the contest.

Maritime added one more goal in the 77th minute of play as Burns sent a crossing shot from the left wing that deflected off the inside of the right post and trickled across the line for the fifth and final Maritime goal of the night.

The Privateers held a 38-6 shot advantage, with freshman Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recording 10 shots to lead the way. Sophomore Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) also added two shots, while classmate Olivia Mihaljevich (Leona Valley, Calif./Quartz Hill) also picked up one shot in the match.

Maritime (6-8, 3-4 Skyline) will not return to play until Wednesday afternoon, when Maritime visits Farmingdale for a 4:30 p.m. start on Long Island.

Yeshiva (0-6, 0-4 Skyline) will host the Old Westbury Panthers this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the Aviator Complex in Brooklyn, N.Y.
