YONKERS, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) – The Maritime women's soccer team began Skyline Conference play on Saturday afternoon against the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins at Tibbett's Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y. With goals in each half of the game, the Dolphins came away with the 2-0 victory to send Maritime to just its third loss of the season.
The Privateers had an early chance to strike with just over a minute gone by in the game as junior Kadie Hook (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) took the team's first corner kick of the afternoon. However, the Privateers were unable to get a shot off on the possession and the Dolphins regained the ball.
In the 11th minute of action, Mount St. Vincent got on the board as Gabriella Astorino got the ball past Maritime goalkeeper Kristen Hoar (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) and off the left post to score the opening goal of the contest at 10:50 into the first half.
The score remained the same at the halftime break with the Dolphins leading by the 1-0 score despite being outshot by the Privateers by a 7-4 differential.
Shots were few and far between in the second half of play as the final ledger had three shots taken by both sides in the second period of play. However, on Mount St. Vincent's last shot of the game, Mandy D'Amico put home a rebound for the insurance goal needed to seal the win for the Dolphins.
Maritime sophomore Jori Cooper (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy Central Rural) took the last shot for the Privateers in the 82nd minute, but Dolphins' keeper Kelly Hilly was able to stop it to keep her clean sheet intact.
Final stats saw the Privateers outshoot their hosts by a 10-7 margin, while the Dolphins doubled up the Privateers on corner kicks by a 4-2 gap.
Hoar took the loss while allowing both Mount St. Vincent goals and making four stops over the 90 minutes of action. Earning the win was Hilly, after registering three saves without allowing a goal.
