THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (October 4, 2013) – The Maritime women's soccer team returns to the pitch this evening at 5 p.m. as the Privateers welcome in the Panthers of Old Westbury for a key Skyline Conference contest.
The Privateers look to set a new standard in wins for the women's soccer program as the team is in search of the ninth win this season. The current record of eight wins has been done just twice in 2009 and again this year.
The team has already set a new standard in wins at Reinhart Field in a single-season as the squad has collected five wins at home against one loss.
Maritime collected its fifth home win in its last game against league rival Purchase on Wednesday evening. The Privateers got three-second half goals to overcome a first half deficit to come away with a 3-1 win. Senior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) netted the first two goals to give Maritime the lead, while freshman Marisa Athan (Mineola, N.Y..Mineola) picked up the insurance goal late in the game.
Old Westbury enters off of its worst loss of the season, 4-0 to St. Joseph's (LI) on Wednesday evening, snapping its four-game winning streak. For the Panthers in their loss, goalkeeper Caitlin Thomas made six saves over 90 minutes of play in goal, while Lucia Mejia and Jenna Donahue led the team with two shots each.
ECAC Metro Player of the Week
On Wednesday, Trenkamp was named ECAC Metro Player of the Week for the second time this season. Last week Trenkamp had seven goals in three games against Saint Elizabeth, NYU-Poly, and Canton, with two of her seven goals as game-winners.
All-Time Series
Maritime is 0-5 against the Panthers in their all-time head-to-head games. The Privateers most recently lost to Old Westbury by seven goals in 2012 on October 13.
