THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (October 18, 2013) – The Maritime women's soccer team concludes its 2013 regular season with a morning contest against the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Maritime comes off of a week-long break after having not played since last Sunday against the Alfred Saxons, a game the Privateers lost by a 3-2 score. Senior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) and freshman Marisa Athan (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) both scored for Maritime in the losing effort.
St. Joseph's enters with a solid record both overall and in conference play heading into Saturday's conference season finale. The Golden Eagles enter unbeaten in their last four games at a 3-0-1 mark including a pair of wins over NYU-Poly and Mount St. Vincent in Skyline play.
All-Time Series
The Privateers are 0-7 all-time against the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's, last year Maritime fell at home by the score of 5-0 in late September.
Win and In?
With a Maritime win over St. Joseph's, the team will finish the season with nine points on the year in conference play. The win coupled with a tie or loss by Sage against Mount St. Vincent will clinch the Privateers their first playoff bid in program history.
If Maritime were to tie St. Joseph's, the Privateers would need help from Mount St. Vincent again as the Dolphins would need to win over Sage tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. The Privateers would also need Old Westbury to defeat or tie Purchase on Tuesday afternoon.
If Maritime and Sage were both to win, both to lose or both tie on Saturday there would still be a tie for the sixth seed and the teams would need to wait for Purchase to play against Old Westbury on Tuesday to determine the playoff seeding.
