THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2012) – The scene at Reinhart Field looked like that of a complete monsoon about an hour before game time, but the field was cleared of all puddles by the hard work of game supervisor and men's lacrosse head coach
Dan Lawrence in time for the Maritime women's soccer team to take on fellow SUNY school, Canton, Saturday afternoon.
The Privateers got two second half goals by senior
Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca), but were unable to catch up to Canton and lost by the final score of 5-2. The defeat drops Maritime to 0-4-0 on the season, while the Kangaroos improve to 2-1.
Sophomores
Kadie Hook (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) and
Melanie Lopez (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical) (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical) both added assists for the Privateers. In goal, freshman
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made four saves.
Canton was led by freshman Karley Cree and junior Katlyn Hart, who tallied two goals each. Junior Melissa Campoverde scored the first goal of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Pratt faced no other shots on goal other than the goals and recorded no saves while still earning the victory.
Maritime is in action next tomorrow, when the squad travels to Pennsylvania to take on York College. Game time between the Privateers and Spartans is set for 11 a.m. Live stats and a broadcast of the game will be available by
