THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2012) – The Maritime women's soccer team dropped its non-conference matchup with visiting John Jay College, 2-0, on Wednesday at Reinhart Field. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 0-3-0 on the season, while the Bloodhounds improve to 1-2-0.

Maritime outshot John Jay, 12-10, on the day, but were unable to find the back of the net as Bloodhound keeper Andrea Antoni made five saves to record the shutout. For the Privateers, freshman Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y /Oceanside) registered two saves.

In the first half, Maritime got two great chances to get on the board first by junior Jackie Bellisari (Albertson, N.Y./Holy Trinity) (Albertson, N.Y./Holy Trinity). In the 23rd minute, she fired a shot that Antoni made a save on and then, in the 26th minute, she nearly cashed in off a corner kick, but a John Jay defender made a big block right along the right post. The game remained scoreless into the halftime break.

The Bloodhounds picked up the momentum in the second half, as Bergelie Louis had chance after chance to put John Jay ahead. She missed on the first, a breakaway shot that just rung of the right post. After two more chances that went just wide, Louis finally found the back of the net on another breakaway in the 66th minute. She would score again in the 73rd minute on another lead pass that she beat the Maritime defense to and buried in the lower left side of the net to give the Bloodhounds a 2-0 lead.

Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when the team plays host to SUNY Canton. Game time is scheduled for noon at Reinhart Field.
