SOMERSET, N.J. (Aug. 31, 2012) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost its season-opening game at the College of Saint Elizabeth Friday afternoon by the score of 3-2. The Privateers scored a goal in each half, but were not able to get the equalizer late.
 
        The Screaming Eagles scored first on a penalty kick in the first half, but Maritime responded on a goal by senior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca). Trenkamp converted on a give and go that started at midfield with sophomore Kadie Hook (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) (Monkton, Md./John Carroll), who got the assist on the tally. CSE scored two late goals in the opening half, however, and went into halftime with a 3-1 lead
 
        In the second half, Maritime came out strong, scoring about 25 minutes in when Hook found the back of the net on a rifle from the top of the box off a pass by classmate Melanie Lopez (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical) (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical).
 
        In goal, freshman Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) was solid in her collegiate debut.
 
        The Privateers are back in action on Sunday, when they lead off a doubleheader against Keystone College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
