THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2012) – The Maritime women's soccer team rallied in the second half from two goals down to tie its Skyline game against NYU-Poly dramatically with 1:02 left on the clock, but the Jays scored the game-winner in the second overtime period to claim a 3-2 win Friday night at Reinhart Field.
Sophomore
Melanie Lopez (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical) (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders Trades & Technical) tallied both goals for the Privateers. The first was on a breakaway in the 59th minute where the lead pass came from senior

Then, in the 89th minute, Lopez again broke free behind the defense after an errant clear by the Jays and fired a shot from 25 yards out right over the goalkeepers' head to tie the game, igniting the great crowd, which included former members of the Maritime women's soccer program.
The Privateers had two very good chances to put the game away in the first overtime period, but shots sailed wide or were turned away by Poly keeper Catherine Mistretta. Maritime keeper, freshman
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), was also tested in the first overtime period, as she made two saves. She ended the night with 13 saves.
It was just about a minute and a half into the second overtime period, when Poly's Geovanna Chavez charged in on a breakaway and was able to dribble around Paczkowski, who dove forward to make a play on the ball, and fire a shot into the empty net. Megan Hightower and Stephanie Arabagian scored the first two goals for the Jays.
Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9, when the team will travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on Mount St. Mary. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
