NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2011) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost a neutral site contest to SUNY Canton, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in the squad's final game of the Michelle Vargas-Robin Memorial Tournament at New Paltz. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Kangaroos improve to 2-2.
Junior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute after picking up her own rebound and stuffing it home. The Roos equalized the game in the 32nd minute and scored the go-ahead goal in the 40th. Two Canton goals in the second half ended the scoring on the day.
The Kangaroos had four different goal scorers on the day: junior Ricci Celia, freshman Dominique Pallotolo, junior Bailey Allen and freshman Kaylee O'Donnell. In goal, sophomore Holli-Jo Cota recorded one save in the victory.
Sophomore Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made seven saves in the losing effort. The Privateers were outshot, 24-7, over the two halves.
Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, for the squad's home-opener against Keystone College. The game is part of a doubleheader that will feature the two school's men's soccer teams squaring off after the women. Game time for the women is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
