THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2011) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost to visiting Old Westbury College, 6-0, Friday night at Reinhart Field in the Privateers Skyline home-opener. The defeat drops Maritime to 2-6-1 (0-2 Skyline) on the season, while the Panthers improve to 2-3 (1-0 Skyline).

For Old Westbury, senior Cassandra Esposito tallied a hat trick with two goals in the first half and one late in the second. Sophomore Samantha Clancy also scored in the first half off an assist by Esposito. The score after the first 45 was 3-0.

The Privateers came out strong in the second half, as junior Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) had two shots turned aside within two minutes of each other in the 62nd and 64th minutes. Old Westbury would gain momentum once again and scored three goals in the final 15 minutes of the game.

In goal, junior Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) registered six saves in the losing effort, while freshman Caitlin Thomas made two saves for the win for Old Westbury.

Maritime returns to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the squad plays host to Skyline-opponent Mount Saint Mary College. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
