SOMERSET, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2010) – The Maritime women's soccer team fell to the College of Saint Elizabeth, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at the CSE Athletic Fields Complex. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 0-4, while the Screaming Eagles improved to 2-1 overall.
Saint Elizabeth recorded the first goal of the game in the 15th minute by Catherine De La Cruz to take an early 1-0 lead. Junior Sam Easterman (Amityville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) tallied the lone goal for Maritime in the 59th minute off an assist by sophomore Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) to open up the scoring in the second half, evening the score at 1-1. However, the Screaming Eagles responded quickly as De La Cruz struck again, this time with the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute, propelling her team to victory.
In goal for the Privateers, junior Ashley Edington (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Bayshore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) made 9 saves, while Sabrina Jarmolinski also made 9 saves to preserve the victory for CSE.
