PORTLAND, Maine (Sept. 6, 2010) – The Maritime women's soccer team took a road trip to Maine this past weekend to take on Unity College and the University of Southern Maine. The Privateers lost their first game against Unity on Saturday by the close score of 2-0, while Southern Maine came out victorious on Sunday, 8-2. With the losses, Maritime falls to 0-3 on the season, while Unity opened the year 1-0 and USM improved to 1-2.

Against the Rams on Saturday, the teams were scoreless in the first half, before Unity opened the scoring late in the 66th minute. They then added an insurance goal with five minutes left to play. The Privateers peppered the Rams goalie with 19 shots (16 on goal), but she was able to stop every one of them to preserve the shutout.

The Privateers came out strong in the second half and sophomore Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) found the back of the net twice. In the 60th minute, she rifled a shot into the right side of the goal from 18 yards out. She then tallied again in the 69th minute after a brilliant solo effort from 15 yards out.
