THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2010) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost to conference opponent Purchase, 10-3, on Tuesday at the Panther Field. In defeat, the Privateers fall to 2-14 overall (2-6 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 6-7-1 (4-5 Skyline).
Sophomore forward Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) opened the scoring in the contest when she found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Senior Cristina George (Southold, N.Y./Southold) was credited with the assist on the goal. Purchase responded with the next three goals, all by sophomore Abaigal Katz.
A goal by junior Sam Easterman (Amityville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) off a corner kick by classmate Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) in the 24th minute and another by George in the 41st minute sandwiched a Panther goal in the 36th minute. Katz struck again right before the end of the half to bring the score to 5-3, Purchase.
The Panthers scored five more in the second half, despite 11 saves by junior Ashley Edington (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Bayshore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) in the period. Edington ended the contest with a season-high 20 saves.
Maritime returns to action Thursday, Oct. 21, when the squad plays host to non-conference opponent City College. Game time is 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
