THROGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2009) – For the second-straight game a Privateer player recorded a hat trick, as freshman Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner ) led the Maritime women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over the Giants of Keystone College Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field. Freshman keeper Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) put up a brick wall, stopping Keystone's two shots on goal to record her first-ever collegiate shutout. With the win, the Privateers move to 2-0 for the first time in program history and have already matched their win total from the 2008 season.

Freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) got Maritime on the board quickly, scoring in just the first minute of the game. Trenkamp received a pass from deep in the right corner by sophomore Sam Easterman, dribbled the ball past the Giants keeper and buried it into the empty net for the first tally of her career.

The teams then went nearly 40 minutes without a goal, before Easterman beat the Keystone defenders in the 41st minute for a breakaway goal into the lower right corner to give the Privateers a 2-0 lead.

Burke made the score 3-0 under a minute later with the first of her three goals, this off a free kick from 18-yards out. Maritime went into the half with the 3-0 advantage, but was also outshooting Keystone, 18-1.

In the 49th minute, Burke tallied her second goal of the game off of a corner kick by sophomore Kristen Saporito. The corner was received by Burke 4-yards out and she trickled the ball past the Giants keeper to make it 4-0. Burke's hat trick goal came on the first penalty kick of the season for Maritime. A cross-pass was touched with a hand by a Keystone defender, causing the PK, which Burke rifled into the back of the net to close out the scoring, 5-0.

The Privateers return to action tomorrow, Sept. 6, when the squad travels to take on the Mustangs of Morrisville State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Mustangs' Drake Field.
