THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2009) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost to Purchase Thursday night in its Skyline Conference opener at Reinhart Field. With the defeat, the Privateers fall to 5-3 (0-1 Skyline) on the season, while the Panthers improve to 3-3-1 (2-0 Skyline).

The game was scoreless through the entire first half, but Purchase controlled most of the play and built up an 8-2 shot lead in the opening stanza. In the 64th minute the Panthers finally broke through with a goal off of a cross that was knocked down by the keeper, but a Purchase forward was there to knock it in from five yards out. The Panthers would add two more goals on a PK in the 68th and off of a rebound in the 77th, while widening their shot advantage to 22-5.

The Privateers return to action on the road this Saturday, when they travel to nearby Yonkers to take on the Mount Saint Vincent. Kickoff between Maritime and the Dolphins is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
