THROGS NECK, N.Y. (August 31, 2009) – The Maritime College women's soccer team begins the 2009 campaign with its home opener against Berkeley College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Reinhart Field. Returning to the Privateer sideline for her third season is head coach Laura Mooney, who has a positive outlook for the season as the Privateers look to improve upon last year's record and qualify for Skyline Conference postseason play.  Additionally, the squad will benefit from a challenging schedule that includes nine home and 10 road matches.

This year's squad returns eight monogram winners and eight starters back in uniform. Maritime also welcomes its largest and strongest incoming class, with five freshmen and three transfers entering the mix – all of whom experienced significant success at the high school, club team or collegiate level.

Look for junior forward Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, N.J.), captain and leading goal-scorer from the 2008 Privateer season, to be joined by sophomore Samantha Easterman (Amityville, N.Y.) as the duo will lead the attack for Maritime.  Freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J.) will contribute significantly to the Privateer's offensive strength with her technical skill.

Junior Christina George (Southold, N.Y.), captain and recipient of the team's Most Valuable Player Award for the 2008 season, and sophomore AudryAnna Ward (Youngsville, N.Y.) will control the midfield transition.  Joining the midfield will be newcomers Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y.) and transfers Noelle Gajeski (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Kelly Swedalla (Huntington Station, N.Y.), who will generate play forward.

The veteran backfield will be led by senior defender Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, NJ) joined by junior Rachael Friedrich (South Nyack, NY) and sophomores Meaghan Grasso (Marlboro, NY) and Ashley Edington (Bay Shore, NY).  Transfer Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, NY) and freshmen Liz Dragomir (Rye Brook, NY) and Molly Divens (Beltsville, MD) will secure the defense and control the back third.  In addition to the backfield, freshman goalkeeper Courtney Marietta (Grantville, PA) will be anchored in net, leading the team vocally and as the first line of attack.
