THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2009) – The Maritime women's soccer team lost to Old Westbury, 3-0, in Skyline Conference action Wednesday night at Reinhart Field. The Privateers fall to 6-7-1 (1-5 Skyline) with the loss, while the Panthers improve to 5-6-1 (4-3 Skyline).

Old Westbury struck in the 32nd minute with a breakaway goal to gain the 1-0 advantage and then added its second just over five minutes later. Coming out of the half trailing 2-0, the Privateers fought strong in the second stanza. When Maritime thought that it had scored its first goal on a direct kick by freshman Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner ) with nearly 13 minutes left to cut the deficit to one goal, the referee corrected his call and took it back after ruling that it should have been an indirect kick. The Panthers added a late goal in the 89th minute.

In net for Maritime, freshman Courtney Marietta (Grantville, Pa./Lower Dauphin) turned aside nine Old Westbury shots, including multiple breakaway opportunities.

The Privateers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. to take on conference-opponent, Bard. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Raptors' Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer Complex.
