THROGS NECK, NY - Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) scored his 1,000th career point at the 4:24 mark in the second half, a basket that brought the Privateers to within two points after trailing by as many as 12 in the second half.  The jumper was his 9th point in the game, putting him at 1,001 total points.  The game's winning basket came from Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College HS) with 12 seconds remaining on the game clock.  The lay-up came after a strong drive to the hole that rolled around the rim a few times before finally falling through.  The Knights had two scoring opportunities to win the game, but couldn't connect on the point-blank attempts.  Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) (Lawrence, NY/Lawrence) secured the final rebound to propel Maritime to a 9-7 (7-4) record.  The Knights fell to 3-14 (3-7).

Maritime controlled the first half from the tip, starting the game with an 8-2 run to force a quick timeout from the home team.  Every time the Knights cut into the lead, the Privateers took it right back, until the 6 minute mark where the Knight's offense started to click.  Down 1 with 6:24 to play in the half, Mount Saint Mary's went on an 8-2 run of their own to take a 5 point lead.  They held onto the lead through the half, ending the first 20 minutes with a 38-34 lead.

The second half proved how tough Maritime can be on the road, coming back from a 12 point deficit at the 16:15 mark despite a large and loud home crowd.  After being down 12, the Privateers cut the lead in half at 12:22, and then 6 minutes later cut it to 3.  With momentum on their side, the Privateers battled all the way through, cutting the lead to 1 on a Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) jumper with 2:26 to play.  The Knights were held scoreless over the final 3:33, and Maritime closed the game out with Hurley's lay-up with :12 to play.  During that scoreless drought, the Privateers turned the ball over only once, and scored on all but two possessions.  The game ended at 65-64 in favor of the Privateers, after the Knights couldn't connect in the game's final seconds.

Pacing the Privateers was Hurley with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  He added 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.  Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) gave a 13 point effort, to go along with 4 assists.  Dougherty finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds, becoming only the 8th 1,000 point scorer at Maritime College.

The Privateers have a few days before traveling to the conference's top team on Saturday at 1PM.  The game against Farmingdale will be the second meeting between the schools this season, with Maritime coming out on top 84-73 at home.
