THROGS NECK, NY - Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) hit three free-throws, after being fouled on a 3-pt. attempt, with 29 seconds to go in regulation to tie the game at 71 and send the exciting conference game against Purchase College into overtime.  The Privateers outscored the Panthers 10-5 in the extra 5 minute period to get the road win 81-76.  Maritime moved into a tie for third place in the conference with a 7-6 (5-3) record. The Panthers fell to 8-5 (4-3) and currently sit in 6th place in the conference.

The game was tied 6 times in the first half, with Purchase taking the largest lead of either team when they went up by 5 halfway through the first stanza.  Each team was held scoreless over the final 1:03, except for the half's final shot, which was a three pointer by Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College) to give Maritime the 35-32 halftime edge.  Hurley ended the half shooting a perfect 7-7 from the field, for 15 points in 20 minutes of play.

The second half began with back and forth play, after the three point lead was erased in the first 3 minutes of the half.  The Panthers took a one point lead at 16:02, and held the lead until the final seconds of regulation.  An 8-0 run starting at 13:45 led to Purchase's biggest lead of the game at 11:44, which was 9 points.  The Privateers didn't give up, as they immediately started chipping away at that deficit.  Down 71-68 with :51 seconds to play, the Privateers came down and ran their offense to perfection.  The constant ball movement caused the Panthers to commit a foul on a three point attempt with :29 remaining.  Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) hit all three to knot the game at 71.  With one last attempt to win the game, the Panthers couldn't connect on a last second attempt and the game went into overtime.

After Purchase won the tip, Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) stole the ball to give Maritime the first possession of the overtime.  The Privateers made the best of it, with Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) (Lawrence, NY/Lawrence) slashing to the hole and laying the ball in for the lead.  A basket by Purchase tied the game again, but the Privateers scored the next 4 points to take their largest lead of the game.  Despite Purchase hitting a three pointer on their next possession, the Privateers continued their methodical offense and stifling defense, ending the final 2:15 of overtime with a 5-0 run to seal the win.

Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) (Baltimore, MD) and Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) led the Maritime offense with 19 points each, followed by Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) with 16 and Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  The Panthers were led by Marvin Billups with 42 points on 15-24 shooting, and Tyriq Harrington followed with 22 points.  Only four other Panthers scored in the game.

The Privateers have a two day break before traveling to Bard College on Thursday for an 8:00PM game.
