THROGS NECK, NY - The men's basketball team dropped their home conference matchup against St. Joseph's College 89-75.  The Golden Eagles remained the conference's leader with a 12-2 (7-1) record, while the Privateers dropped into 6th place at 6-6 (4-3).

St. Joseph's led the game wire to wire, never giving up the lead even after the Privateers tied the game multiple times in the second half.  The Golden Eagles held a 40-32 edge at the half, thanks to a 16 point performance from David Acree in the half.  Although down by 8, the Privateers did come back from a double digit deficit on two separate occasions to keep the game close.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles looked to extend their lead, but they couldn't overcome the Privateers offensive attack in the opening 5 minutes.  Maritime cut the lead all the way down to 1 at the 15:21 mark, after Andre Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) (Baltimore, MD) sank a three pointer.  Less than a minute later, the Privateers tied the game at 49-49 on a Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) jumper.  The Golden Eagles scored on their next possession, but Maritime answered right back for the game's 4th tie.  Cooper hit the tieing jumper and had a chance to give Maritime their first lead, but couldn't connect on the free throw.  That would prove to be as close as Maritime could get for the rest of the game, as the Golden Eagles played tough basketball and brought their lead to as much as 14 before the game was over.

St. Joseph's was led by JJ Walsh with 34 points and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.  David Acree followed with 23 points and Chris Niblock added 16.

For Maritime, Cooper led the scoring with 19 points, and also pulled down 6 rebounds to lead the team in both categories.  Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) finished with 17 points, including 4-5 from 3-pt. range.  Kevin Josey (Staten Island, N.Y./Monroe Webster) (Staten Island, NY/Monroe Webster) was the final Privateer in double figures with 10.

Up next for Maritime is Purchase College on Monday at 7:00PM.  The game is on the road at Purchase.
