Box Score THROGS NECK, NY - The Privateer men's soccer team came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game, but couldn't hold off the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary's. The Knights scored with just under 13 minutes to go in the game, and the Privateers could not answer. Maritime falls to 3-4-1 (0-1) while Mount Saint Mary's stands at 3-5 (2-0).
The first half was all Mount Saint Mary's, as the Privateers struggled offensively and took only 3 shots. The Knights got 2 goals, first from John Como and then one from Nick Morse. Morse was credited with an assist on the first goal, while his was unassisted.
The Privateers came out much stronger in the second half, attempting more than twice as many shots. John Blunden (Arlington, VA/Washington) scored off an assist from Emilio Andino (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) from nearly 30 yards out. Blunden's shot looked as if it were going wide right, but took a sharp turn and sailed to the top right corner. Only three minutes later, Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored off a header from Arthur Melody (East Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) to tie the game at 2.
It seemed as if the Privateers had all the momentum, but it took only one breakaway and the Blue Knights regained the lead for good. Brian Strock took a perfectly placed pass from Morse and beat Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) for the game winner.
The Privateers will be traveling to rival King's Point on October 1st for their next game. It is scheduled to begin at 7:45 PM.
