Men's Soccer Falls Short on the Road Against Hunter

THROGS NECK, NY - The Maritime men's soccer team fell a goal short of their second straight win of the season, falling to Hunter College 2-1 at ICAHN Stadium on Randalls Island.  The Privateers are now 1-1 on the season, while Hunter improved to 3-3.

The first half proved to be a defensive battle, with neither team scoring and both goalies stopping 2 shots each.  Scoring began 20 minutes into the second half, when Hunter's Devin Leahy found the back of the net for his first career goal. 

It took only 4 minutes for the Privateers to come back and tie the game, getting a goal from Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, NY/Plainedge) who took a corner kick from Derrick Sevcik (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and headed it into the goal.

The game winning goal came at 72:21, when Mario Rojas was able to put a rebound shot past Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis).  Papson recorded 9 saves in 90 minutes of action.

Maritime will be on the road again against Brooklyn College on Friday.  The game will be played at Kingsborough College beginning at 4:00PM.
