Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener

THROGGS NECK, NY- The Privateer women's lacrosse team opened up their 2008 season with a 25-1 loss against the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville.  Morrisville's record improves to 2-0, while Maritime falls to 0-1.

It was senior Alicia Pauls (/) (Lafayette, LA) who scored the lone goal for Maritime off of a free position attempt. Pauls also had 2 shots on goal and 1 groundball.  Privateer goalie Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) (Point Pleasant, NJ/ Point Pleasant) stepped up to make  11 saves to anchor the Maritime defense against the Morrisville offensive onslaught and freshman Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/ North Warren Regional) recorded 5 groundballs and 2 shots on goal.

Morrisville midfielder Jennifer Caffarelli broke the school record for total points after scoring her 4th goal of the game.  Caffarelli finished up the game with 5 goals and 1 assist.  Midfielder Jamie Collins recorded 4 goals and 1 assist, while midfielder Carmen Velazquez and attacker Kayla Miller each managed to score 3 goals apiece.

Maritime's next contest will be a home game against Cazenovia College on Reinhart field on March 11 starting at 3:00 pm.
