Box Score
THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime baseball team played its first game on campus in more than two years, but couldn't overcome windy and cold conditions.  The Privateers fell 6-2 to the visiting Wildcats of SUNYIT.

Starting pitcher James Hoffman (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) (East Islip, NY/East Islip) pitched a hitless 4 innings to open the game, and got 2 runs from his team in the bottom of the fourth.  The lead was short lived though, as the Wildcats answered with 2 runs of their own in the top of the next inning.  Hoffman pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 5.

The Wildcats opened up the game in the top of the 8th, scoring 4 runs off relief pitcher Andrew Mayer (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson), three of which were earned.  Strong defense and excellent pitching by the Wildcats put the game away following the 8th.  The Privateers loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs, but couldn't manufacture a comeback.

Offensively, Brenton Yockel (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) went 2-4 for the afternoon.  Matthew Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack) (Commack, NY/Commack) recorded Maritime's only extra base hit, with a double in the first inning.  The Privateers' defense turned 2 double plays in the game.

Maritime will be at home again on March 29th, for the first conference game of the season against Polytechnic.  The double header is scheduled for 10:00AM.
