Maritime Basketball Ends Regular Season with Loss; Home Conference Play-Off Game Next

THROGGS NECK, NY - Despite coming back from a 9 point deficit in the first half to tie the game at 39 before the half, the Privateers couldn't overtake the Panthers of Old Westbury on Senior Night at SUNY Maritime, losing 82-67.  The Privateers ended their regular season at 12-13 (9-9) while Old Westbury improved to 16-9 (15-3).

Senior forward Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) led the Privateers with 27 points on 10-20 shooting.  Webb added 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, and a block in 40 minutes of play.  Maritime's other senior Mike Stolberg (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) went 1-3 scoring 2 points, pulling down 3 rebounds in 14 minutes.  Kirk McRae (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) (Brooklyn, NY/George Westinghouse) came off the bench and added 14 points and 3 rebounds.  Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) chipped in with 11 points.

For Old Westbury, Garthlette James recorded 32 points on 15-22 shooting, while adding 2 assists.  Lester Prosper had 11 points and 6 blocked shots to go along with 8 boards. 

Both teams will host the first round of Skyline Conference play on Tuesday, with Maritime hosting Mount Saint Mary's at 8:00PM and Old Westbury hosting Yeshiva.
