THROGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's soccer team scored a season high 8 goals, while only giving up 4, in a home victory over the visiting College of Staten Island.  The win brings Maritime to 6-7-2 while CSI drops to 3-12-1.

The Privateers opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) connecting on a fast break.  Then, 5 minutes later, CSI tied the game with a goal from Sam Musovic.  Following the tie, the flood gates opened for scoring, as Nelson connected on the next two goals, including one from more than 25 yards out that was placed perfectly into the top right corner.  Emilio Andino (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) assisted on the second Privateer goal, after placing a pass perfectly over the back defensive unit.  CSI didn't give up though, as they scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the half to tie the game at 3.

The Privateers came out in the second half and controlled the ball from the start, keeping the ball away from CSI and wearing out the defense.  Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, N.Y./Plainedge) (Farmingdale, NY/Plainedge) scored his sixth goal of the season to break the tie, assisted by a perfect pass from Derrek Sevcik (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).  Less than 10 minutes later, Emilio Andino (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) scored his second of the season, unassisted from about 20 yards out.  His goal proved to be the game winner.

Down 5-3, CSI would get one more goal to bring the game to within one, but that would be as close as they would get, thanks to Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington). Mayer scored his fourth on the night with a perfectly placed ball off his left foot as he was running towards the goal.  Andino assisted on the goal, giving him his second assist in the game.  Tursi added another before Nelson scored his fifth.  The Privateers finished the game with the 8-4 victory.

Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) played all 90 minutes in goal, picking up the win by making 11 saves.  His opponent, Christopher Morales, made 10 saves in 90 minutes.  Maritime will be hosting Old Westbury on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM.
