Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team snapped their two game skid by beating Purchase at home 65-58. The victory moves Maritime to 7-6 (4-2) while Purchase dropped to 2-10 (1-4).
The Privateers came out strong right from the tip, jumping to an 11 point lead 5 minutes in. The lead kept getting bigger throughout the first half, thanks to 48% shooting from the filed (5-12 from behind the line). Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College HS) scored 14 points during the first half, helping his team to a 44-20 margin going into the locker room.
The second half proved to be much different than the first, with Purchase scoring the first 15 points, cutting the lead down to 7. The Panthers still had more in them, going on a 27-2 run to take the first lead of the half. Their one point lead at the 8 minute mark was the first of three lead changes over the course of the next 4 minutes, before Maritime took the lead for good.
Hurley led the Privateers with 20 points and 8 rebounds in 31 minutes. Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) followed with 14 points and 4 assists, while Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) finished the game with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
The Panthers were led by Trig Harrington with 22 points and 5 assists in 39 minutes. Kareem Farmyard followed with 21 points on 8-15 shooting. Henry Ferrari finished with 12 rebounds.
The Privateers will return home to face Farming dale on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
