St. Joseph's Golden Eagles Fly By Privateers

THROGGS NECK, NY- In spite of a valiant effort in the second half, the Maritime men's basketball team was unable to overcome the sizable lead St. Joseph built up in the first half and the Privateers were defeated by the Golden Eagles 78-87 in a Skyline Conference match-up played at Riesenberg Hall on January 26.

Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/ Tuckahoe) led the Privateers with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 2 steals.  Junior Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/ St. Francis Prep) added 15 points, going 7-for-11 from the paintGiovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, NY/ Middle College) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles came out strong, building up their lead by as much as 20 points in the first half.  Maritime was unable to maintain their shooting percentage, going 10-for-33 in overall field goal attempts.  The second half proved to be a different story as the Privateers came out ready to play, shooting over 50% and cut the lead down to 4 points with less than 7:00 remaining in the game.  However, St. Joseph's rallied to build the lead back up to 10 points and came away with the important Skyline victory. 

St. Joseph's David Acree was the leading scorer with 25 points and 4 rebounds.  Brandon Freeman and Mike Crisci each added 17 points to help earn the win.
