Maritime Men Swim to Road Victory, Women Fall to Mount Saint Mary's

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's and women's swim team traveled to Newburgh NY to swim against Mount Saint Mary's for the first meet in over a month.  The men won the event 110-94 while the women fell 114-57.

Junior team captain Karl Fisher (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) led the team with 3 victories.  He was a team member of the 200-yard Medley Relay Team (along with Joseph Smigelski (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy), Thomas Williams (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca), and David O'Dougherty (Morristown, NJ/Oratory Prep)) that won by more than 7 seconds, a member of the 200-yard Freestyle Relay Team (along with Joseph Smigelski (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy), Brian Day (Paramus, N.J./Paramus), and John Stultz-Whiting) who won by more than 6 seconds, and he captured the 50-yard Freestyle in 23.55, nearly three seconds faster than the next finisher.  The men received individual victories from David O'Dougherty (Morristown, NJ/Oratory Prep) (Morristown, NJ/Oratory Prep) in the 200-yard IM, Thomas Williams (Cheektowaga, N.Y./West Seneca) (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca) in the 100-yard Freestyle, and Brian Day (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) in the 500-yard Freestyle.

On the women's side, Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) captured wins in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:35.37) and the 200-yard Freestyle Relay (2:03.40) along with teammates Caroline Hickey (New Orleans, La./DeLasalle) (New Orleans, LA/DeLaselle), Kyle Kenny (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet), and Ecarsha Smith (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustine College).  Kenny also captured the individual win in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 1:08.89.

Both teams will compete next at the college of Staten Island, in a dual meet, on January 23rd.  It is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM.
