Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team lost only their second game all season at home to a tough Farmingdale team, 91-75. The Privateers fell to 7-7 (4-3) while the Rams improved to 8-4 (5-1).
The Privateers opened the game with the first 5 points and led the game for the opening 5 minutes. The Rams took a 3 point lead at the 15:40 mark, but it was short lived. An 9-3 run over the next three minutes put Maritime up 6. The Privateers held the lead and increased it to 7 with 9 minutes to play, but Farmingdale went on a 18-0 run over the next 5 minutes to take the first double digit lead of the game. The Privateers worked hard and went into the half down only 6.
The second half was a battle between both teams, although Farmingdale didn't allow the Privateers to take another lead. The only tie in the second half was at the 12:34 mark (56-56). The Rams took over the game by shutting down the Maritime offense and crashing the offensive glass.
Maritime was led by Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) with 21 points on 7-13 shooting (5-6 from behind the 3-pt line). Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) followed with 19 points and 6 assists. Gio Hurley (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College HS) and Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) ended with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Farmingdale's Erastus Shannon led all scorers with 33 points on 14-16 shooting, and 8 rebounds (6 offensive). Charles Vasser followed with 16 points, while Damien Santana and Daniel Phillips scored 14 apiece.
The Privateers will return to home on Wednesday to take on Polytechnic at 8:00 PM.
