THROGGS NECK, NY – The SUNY Maritime Privateers revenged last seasons' 21-15 loss to the Salve Regina Seahawks, by defeating them at home 40-26, in front of a crowd of over 1300 fans. The Privateers improve to a perfect 2-0 on the season, while Salve Regina drops to 0-1.

Maritime jumped out to an early lead, and never gave the Seahawks a window to come back.  Scoring opened up with a Garrison Landry (Baton Rouge, LA/Redemptorist) (Baton Rouge, LA/Redemptorist) 10 yard rushing touchdown with 4:30 remaining in the first period. The extra point attempt sailed wide right, and the Privateers brought the 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

The scoring opened up in the second, once Ben Swedish (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) darted for a 34 yard touchdown run, through a wide open hole on the right side of the defense. Six minutes later, Swedish found the endzone for his second score of the afternoon, this time a 1 yard punch into the endzone.

The ensuing kickoff was fielded by the Seahawks' Jason Giordano (Wolcott, CT/Wolcott) and returned 71 yards to set up a rushing touchdown of 17 yards by quarterback Jeff St. Onge (Kingston, NH/Catholic Central). With the score 19-7, the Privateers mounted one more drive before the half, that ended with a Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL)) (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake) 7 yard touchdown.

With the score 26-7 a the half, the Seahawks came out strong, capping a 39 yard drive with St. Onge's second rushing touchdown (2 yards). Greg Campisi (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) sprinted through holes and dodged tacklers on his way to a 35 yard touchdown run, to give the Privateers a 33-13 lead. Louy Marroquin (Hewlett, NY/Hewlett) answered back with a touchdown of his own, bringing the score to 33-20.

Marroquin opened the 4th quarter with another score, moving the Seahawks to within 7, but Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL)) scored with 2:11 left to seal the deal for the Privateers.

Offensively, the Privateers recorded 421 net rushing yards, while attempting only 2 passes the entire afternoon. An impressive 12-17 on third downs, and 2-2 on fourth downs, helped the Privateers keep the ball for almost 36 minutes.

The Privateers will return home next weekend to host Mount Ida College at noon.
