THROGGS NECK, NY – The SUNY Maritime men's soccer team fell to their cross river rival King's Point by a final of 6-3. The Mariners improve to 5-4, while Maritime drops to 5-3.

The Mariners opened up the scoring on a penalty kick in the 18th minute by David Poulnot that slid past the goalkeeper. 10 minutes later, Ben Inouye threw in a ball that was headed by Rusty Denson to an open Clint Foster who headed a shot past the goalie for the 2-0 advantage

Only a few minutes later, Maritime's James Salka (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) took a corner kick from Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and headed his own shot to the back of the net. The Mariners would add one more goal by Will Spouse before the half, to take a 3-1 lead.

King's Point came out strong in the second half, taking immediate control of the ball and not allowing Maritime the chance to score. Poulnot added his second goal of the match to take a 4-1 lead.

Momentum seemed to shift to the Privateers after Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored on an Anuar Romero (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) (Roselle, NY/Roselle) pass from midfield, but King's Point came back strong scoring two more goals in a 4 minute span. Ryan Hadley and Daniel Twito each scored for the Mariners. Patrick Masango (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) rounded out the scoring in the 71st minute, off of Mayer's second assist of the night.

Matthew Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) recorded 4 saves in net for the Privateers, while his counterpart Preston Stokes had 4 saves as well.

The Privateers have moved their next game, that was supposed to be on Saturday, to Monday at 7PM. They will be traveling to Mount Saint Mary's for their second conference game of the season.
