Box Score

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime football team dropped their second game of the season 48-15 at Norwich University.  The Privateers fall to 2-2 on the season.

After Norwich opened the scoring in the first quarter, Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL)) (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake) knotted the game at 7 on a quarterback sneak from the 1 yard line.  The first quarter ended with the game tied at 7-7.

The second quarter started off with a Norwich field goal and the Privateers could not capitalize on their next possession, moving 37 yards on 9 plays and turning the ball over on downs.  After a missed field goal by Norwich, the Privateers took possession on their own 13 yard line.  A Garrison Landry (Baton Rouge, LA/Redemptorist) (Baton Rouge, LA/Redemporist) 7 yard rush, following by a Robert Nichols (Ossining (NY)/Ossining) (Ossining, NY/Ossining) 13 yard run, gave the Privateers some breathing room from their own end zone.  Unfortunately, the drive stalled and Maritime was forced to punt.  Norwich broke through the line and blocked the punt, recovered it, and ran it in for a score.

The ensuing drive by Maritime resulted in another blocked punt by the same Norwich player (Ren Fenner), and returned to the Maritime 1 yard line.  Two plays later, Norwich put another score on the board to take a 24-7 lead.

Norwich would score again before Maritime added their second score of the afternoon, Smooke's second rushing touchdown of the game.  Robert Nichols (Ossining (NY)/Ossining) converted the 2-point conversion to bring the score to 31-15.  Norwich would add 17 more points before the afternoon was up, to improve to 2-2 on the season.

The next game for the Privateers will be this weekend's homecoming match-up against Morrisville State.  The game is scheduled to start at 2:05PM.
