Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY – The SUNY Maritime women's volleyball team dropped their season opening match against John Jay College 3-0. Individual game scores were 30-16, 30-27, 30-24.
The Privateers struggled in the first game, and couldn't stop the strong attack from the Bloodhounds. Sara Altamirano (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) led the attack with 5 kills in the first game. The team had a total of 12 in the first, and 32 for the match. Anjanette Perez (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) led the team with 22 assists for the night.
The second and third games proved to be more even, with the Privateers holding at least a 2 point lead for most of the beginning on each game. Brittney McVea (Camillus, NY/West Geneseo) had 5 kills on the night, to go along with her 2 assists and 2 digs. Sophomore Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, NY/Lima Christian School) led the team with 8 digs.
The next game for the Privateers will be on the road Thursday, against the City College of New York beginning at 7:00 PM.
