Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY – The SUNY Maritime men's soccer team won their second straight game tonight, this time over Brooklyn College 6-3. The Privateers improve to 2-1 while Brooklyn College drops to 0-2.
Maritime opened the scoring 9 minutes into the game, when James Salka (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) scored on a header off the corner kick from Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington). Nelson scored less than 5 minutes later, after getting a rebound off a teammates' shot. Nelson would score two more times in the half, giving the Privateers a 4-1 halftime advantage.
Brooklyn College opened the second half with a score from Vasilios Mantagas (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) but the defense of the Bridges couldn't stop Maritime from scoring two more goals, including a goal by Melih Aklildiz (Eskisehir, Turkey) from 30 yards out, that curved its way into the upper right corner. Brooklyn's Elis Llagami (Brookly, NY/FDR) rounded out the scoring on the night, netting his second of the game with less than 6 minutes to play.
Matthew Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) got the win for the Privteers, allowing only one goal in over 37 minutes of play.
Maritime will be back in action on the 15th, when they play in the Manhattanville Tournament against St. John Fisher. The game is set to begin at 5:00 PM in Purchase, NY.
