Tom Freeman (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) added three including the game winner with 1:56 left in the game to lift the Privateers over Centenary College to earn their third Skyline Conference win of the season in men’s lacrosse action Monday evening in Hackettstown, NJ.
It was a back and forth battle the whole way through that featured eight lead changes and seven ties. The Cyclones seemed to have pulled away in the tail end of the third period, scoring three straight goals and adding another one at the start of the fourth period to gain an 8-6 advantage. However, showing great resilience for the second straight game, the Privateers battled back behind the play of Fricke and Freeman to spark a 4-0 scoring run and close out the game with a10-8 advantage.
Juniors Ryan Mangold (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) and Nate Small (Great Mills, MD/Great Mills) each scored three goals for Centenary, Small also led the team with three assists.
Freshman keeper Colin Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) made his first career start in net for the Privateers, making 15 saves and allowing eight goals. Sophomore Brian Troilo (Whitehouse Station, NY/Hunterdon Central) had 15 saves and ten goals against for the Cyclones.
Maritime returns to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host the Cougars of Kean University for a 1:00 p.m.
