Box Score Throggs Neck, NY – Junior midfielder
Alex Rosero (Bellport, NY/Bellport) (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and freshman attack
Lawrence Montreuil (New Hyde Park, NY/.New Hyde Park) each scored two goals in the Privateers season finale, but their totals wouldn’t be enough to overcome an early deficit as they fall 13-6 to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY.
The Mariners were led on offense by senior attack Sean Dougherty (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) who scored five goals and added two assists. Senior attack Jim Flannery (North Massapequa, NY/Holy Trinity) finished with a game high three assists.
The Privateers leading scorer, junior midfielder
Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) added two assists in limited minutes for the Privateers. Toby suffered a hamstring injury in the first period and was not able to play at 100% the rest of the game.
Freshman keeper Colin Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) had solid outing in-net, despite giving up the 13 goals. Facing the conference’s top scorer in Dougherty, Gallagher shut him down, allowing just five of the 20 shots Dougherty took to get past him. He would finish the game with a career high 26 saves. Junior John Pagano (West Islip, NY/St. Anthony’s) made nine saves in goal for the Mariners.
This concludes the 2007 season for the Privateers, who finish just a game below .500, 6-7 and 4-5 in the Skyline Conference. This was a huge improvement for a team that won just three game in 2006.
