Matthew Cresswell (Commack, NY/Commack)’s (Commack, NY/Commack) one run triple in the top of the first helped get the ball rolling for the Privateers who earned their first victory of the season over the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in nine innings of baseball action Tuesday evening from the CSI Baseball Complex in Willowbrook, NY.

Chris Ressler (Kinderhook, N.Y./Icabod Crane) (Kinderhook, NY/Icabod Crane) starting this off for the Privateers in the top of the first with a double, hitting out of the number two spot. Following a stolen base,
Ressler would be brought home by the next batter on a groundout RBI. Steel then hit a double in the four spot and was brought home by
Cresswell’s triple, giving Maritime a 2-0 lead.
Leading 2-1 after one inning, Maritime would earn the game winning run in the top of the second thanks to a groundout RBI from senior outfielder
Daniel Hosemann (West Hempstead, N.Y./Carey) (West Hempstead, NY/Carey) who brought home junior
Joseph Carofano (Greenlawn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) (Greenlawn, NY/St. Anthony's) who reached base via a walk.

Ross Belisto (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) earned his first collegiate victory, pitching a complete nine innings, allowing just two earned runs, six hits and struck out two batters. Senior
Jeff Appelbaum (Brooklyn, NY/Madison) records the loss for the Dolphins after just three innings of action, allowing four hits and three earned runs.
Following a winless season in 2006, this is the Privateers first win since back on April 21, 2005 when they defeated Baruch College 8-4. Maritime now improves to 1-7 on the year, while the Dolphins fall to 2-5 overall.
The Privateers return to action this Saturday, March 31 when the travel to Farmingdale, NY to face the Farmingdale State Rams for a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
