Privateers defeat Becker with overall team effort

Throggs Neck, NY – It would be an overall team effort that helped spark the Privateers to their third victory of the season over the Hawks of Becker College 21-3 Saturday afternoon in men’s lacrosse action at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY.
 
Maritime (3-2) came out strong, scoring five goals in the first five minutes of the game, en route to an 11 goal period. Becker (0-1) would pick up two goals in the second, but were trailing 16-2 at the half.
 
Junior Alex Rosero (Bellport, NY/Bellport), sophomore Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and freshman Max Ferguson (Rockville Centre, NY/Chaminade) (Rockville Centre, NY/Chaminade) each scored three goals for the Privateers, while five others contributed two goals each. Junior midfielder Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) also had a big game, dishing out seven assists, a career single-game high, and also scored two goals.
 
Senior attack Corey Rosenblatt (Newton, MA/Beaver Country Day) scored two of Becker’s three goals, both unassisted. Junior midfielder Derek Lepore (Providence, RI/Lasalle Academy) netted the Hawks’ third goal on a pass from freshman midfielder Aaron Fill (Lander British Columbia/Delta).
 
Sophomore keeper Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) earned his third victory of the season, shutting out the Hawks in 15 minutes of play. Each Privateer keeper saw action today, including freshman Kevin May (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Dominic) (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) who in his first collegiate appearance made two saves and denied the Hawks from scoring any goals in his 15 minutes of action. Junior Peter Fellows (Boylston, MD/O’Neill) made 18 saves in net for Becker.  
 
The Privateers return to action this Wednesday, March 28 when they head to Upper Montclair, NJ to face Skyline Conference foe, the Red Hawks of the Montclair State University for a 7:00 p.m. game.  In a fierce battle last season, the Red Hawks were able to steal a 12-11 victory away from the Privateers in the final minutes of the game. The Red Hawks currently lead the all-time series 23-4, dating back to 1974.
