THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime women's swim team won their first meet of the season, after defeating Lehman College 110-83 in Throggs Neck. The team captured 9 wins throughout the meet.
Freshman swimmer Caroline Hickey (New Orleans, La./DeLasalle) placed first in the 200-yard IM (2:44.21) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.27), and was part of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in first by only .13 seconds (2:15.70). Other members of the relay team included Alyson Paz (Point Lookout, NY/Long Beach) (Point Lookout, NY/Long Beach), Ecarsha Smith (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Augustine College), and Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genesee). Paz also captured the 1 meter diving event with 209.62 points, while Smith won the 100-yard butterfly event in 1:18.39.
Diane Kruse (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. Anthony's) (Port Jefferson Station, NJ/St. Anthony's) had a great evening as well, winning the 1000-yard freestyle by more than a minute (16:14.48) and the 500-yard freestyle in 7:57.26. She was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, that finished in 2:03.51, that included Smith, McVea, and Kyle Kenny (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet). Kenny helped her team to 9 points after finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.77).
This meet closed out the 2007 part of the women's schedule. The next meet is scheduled for January 15th at Mount Saint Mary's in Newburgh, NY.
