THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team won their home Skyline opener over Bard 101-77, improving their record to 4-3 (2-1).  This win matched the win total for last year's Privateers.

The Privateers offense was simply red hot, shooting 67% from the field for the game (37-55) and 67% from behind the arc (4-6).  All 5 starters scored in double figures, namely Tim Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) with 24 (10-11FG, 2-2 3-pt, 2-3FT), Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) with 13, Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) with 12 points and 10 assists (3 rebounds shy of a triple-double), Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) with 10, and Kirk McRae (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) (Brooklyn, NY/George Westinghouse) with 10.  Off the bench, Michael Stolberg (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) added 11.

For the Raptors, Christian Marghella recorded 16 points to lead the team.  Coming into the game, the offense was averaging better than 84 points per game, but were limited to only 77, shooting 43% from the field and 7-15 from behind the arc.  The defense, which routinely forces opponents into 25+ turnovers, forced Maritime to turn it over 23 times.

The Privateers trailed only one time in the game, by one point five minutes into the game.  Maritime extended their lead to as many as 13 two times, before heading into the locker room with a 12 point advantage (45-33).  The second half proved to be much of the same, as Maritime extended their lead and never allowed Bard back into the game.  The smallest margin in the second half was 13 points.

The Privateers will return home on Saturday at 4:00 PM for another Skyline Conference game.  Mount Saint Vincent's (3-3, 0-2) will be the opponent.
