Men Handed First Conference Loss of Season

THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team went on the road to Saint Joseph's and lost their first conference game of the season 86-75.  Maritime's record evened out at 3-3 (1-1).

The Eagles opened the game with a 14-4 run, and never gave up the lead for the rest of the game.  David Acree had 11 of his 32 points in the first half, and the eagles shot 46% from the field.  Down 6 with 1:50 to go in the first half, the Maritime offense kicked it up a notch and ended the half on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 35.  Giovanni Hurley (Brooklyn, N.Y./Middle College High) (Brooklyn, NY/Middle College HS) came off the bench and grabbed 3 offensive rebounds and recorded 12 points in the half.

The Privateers pulled the game to within 2 points (58-56) with 10 minutes to go, but couldn't get any closer.  The Eagles pushed the lead to 15 with two minutes left, and sealed the victory, their third overall (3-1) and first in the conference (1-0).  Hurley led the Privateers with 23 points on 10-13 shooting from the field, followed by Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) with 13 and Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) with 12.  Senior Michael Stolberg (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) came off the bench to add 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The Privateers will return home Tuesday, December 4th at 8PM to take on Skyline competitor Bard College.
