THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime football team lost its final game of the 2007 season to Gallaudet by a final of 28-13.  The Privateers end their season at 2-8 overall.

Maritime jumped out to an early lead, off a 15 yard touchdown run by quarterback Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL)) (Land O'Lake's, FL/East Lake).  The opening drive score, was set up by a 15 yard rush from AJ Gillilan (Alamonte Springs, FL/Lyman) (Almonte Springs, FL/Lyman), followed immediately by 13 and 15 yard rushes by Ben Swedish (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point).

The lead was short lived, as Gallaudet scored on their first play from scrimmage, a 65 yard rush.  After a Maritime fumble, Gallaudet scored again to take a 14-7 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw only one score by Gallaudet, and each team traded possessions after their fourth down plays failed to pick up a first down.  The half ended after a Smooke 20 yard rush to the Gallaudet 39.

The third quarter saw the two teams trading punts as well as Maritime forcing a turnover on downs on a 4th-and-1 play for Gallaudet.  The Privateers scored with 5:33 left in the fourth quarter, after Joseph Galante (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By-The-Sea) (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By-The-Sea) connected with Marc Kunchev (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) on an 11 yard pass.  The PAT was blocked, leaving the score at 21-13.  Gallaudet then took the ensuing kickoff and returned it 85 yards to seal the win.

Maritime will be losing only three seniors from this year's roster.  The Privateers coaches and staff would like to wish them the best of luck with everything they do, and thank them for their work and dedication to the program.  Paul Nolan (Rockaway Park, NY/Poly Prep) (Rockaway Park, NY/Poly Prep), Team Captain Joe Becker (Patterson, NY/Brewster) (Patterson, NY/Brewster), and Marc Kunchev (Angola, NY/Lake Shore).
